Hi There!

Thank you for expressing interest in my WordCamp Joburg 2019 workshop on how you can use WordPress as an application backend. I feel very honored to be afforded this apportunity to present at this awesome conference!

So in this blog post, I’m going to walk you through some of the housekeeping we need to do to get our development environments ready for the workshop, so lets dive in.

The first thing that we need to do is to setup Ionic and it’s dependencies on our machines. Ionic is a great framework for creating hybrid mobile apps using webtechnologies, HTML, CSS & Javascript. We are going to be using it for running our client app that will then talk to a WordPress backend. I’ve created some videos walking you through the setup process for each one of the major operating systems.

After setting up Ionic, the next thing we want to do is to is install Xampp server and you can do so by following the guides below:

Awesome! Now that we have Ionic & Xampp setup we need to download and install the latest version of wordpress from here https://wordpress.org/download/.

Then finally install some tools that we need to interact with the WP API. Install Postman from https://www.getpostman.com/downloads/. Then finally install the JSONview extension from the Chrome Web Store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jsonview/chklaanhfefbnpoihckbnefhakgolnmc?hl=en

That’s all you need to do to get your development environment ready for the workshop. See you at WordCamp Joburg 2019!
