In this first of a 3-part Ionic 5 mobile app development tutorial series, we go over how to implement Google Maps using the Google Maps JavaScript API. We’ll start off by creating a new project in the Google Developer console and activating the Google Maps API and creating an API key. We then integrate the map into our Ionic 5 app. After successfully rendering the map, we then create map markers and place them at arbitrary points on the map. Finally, on each map marker, we add an info window that when clicked or tapped, displays more information about the point represented by our marker.

Join us in part 2, where we will implement turn-by-turn navigation so that the user can navigate from their current location to any of the points where we have placed custom markers.
